Leonard Teyssier, a cherished member of the Ocean Beach community, passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on July 12, 1949, in San Diego, California, Leonard lived a vibrant life filled with love, service, and an unwavering connection to the coastal town he called home.

A proud alumnus of Point Loma High School (Class of 1967), Leonard’s early years were marked by his passion for sports, particularly baseball, where he earned accolades as a standout pitcher. His athletic spirit carried into adulthood, where he became a familiar face at local beach volleyball games and community events. After high school, Leonard served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and camaraderie.

Leonard’s professional life was as diverse as his interests. He worked for over three decades as a skilled electrician, contributing to numerous projects across San Diego. Later, he found joy in bartending at iconic Ocean Beach establishments like The Sunshine Company and Tony’s Beach Club, where his quick wit and warm smile made him a beloved figure among locals and visitors alike. His stories of OB’s colorful history entertained countless patrons, weaving him into the fabric of the community.

An avid surfer and environmental advocate, Leonard was often seen riding the waves or cleaning up the shores of Ocean Beach. He was a longtime member of the Surfrider Foundation and volunteered with local clean-up efforts, reflecting his commitment to preserving the natural beauty of his hometown. His love for the ocean was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends, who remember him as a loyal, generous, and fiercely independent soul.

Leonard is survived by his sister, Marie Teyssier; his nephew, Michael Teyssier; and a wide circle of friends who considered him family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara Teyssier. His memory will live on in the sunsets of Ocean Beach, the laughter shared over a cold drink, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.

Leonard’s life will be celebrated on March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Robb Field in Ocean Beach, followed by a paddle-out ceremony at Sunset Cliffs. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Surfrider Foundation in Leonard’s name.

Rest in peace, Leonard—forever an Ocean Beach legend.
