Love! Betrayal! A surprising number of phallic puns! After bringing Newsies to their new stage, Wildsong is back again with a fantastic romp through 1600s England in the tony-nominated Broadway musical Something Rotten. Featuring some of San Diego’s best actors, this show is sure to delight.
Wildsong Productions will open their production of Something Rotten on Sept. 20 in Ocean Beach. This production creates a hilarious theatrical experience in our black box style theatre, chock full of humor that would rival the great Shakespeare himself. Tickets for Something Rotten are on sale now.
Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
Brooke Aliceon, founding artistic director of Wildsong Productions and director for the production, is thrilled to bring Something Rotten to a local community stage.
“Something Rotten is a show that not a lot of people know, but everyone will love,” says Aliceon. “Shakespeare has always been about the unexpected humor and heart-wrenching stories, and Something Rotten is no different. I hope that the San Diego community will fall for this show the way we all have.”
